With the onset of the rainy months, the National Youth Commission (NYC) urges the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) to initiate clean-up activities in their respective barangays to prevent the spread of dengue and leptospirosis when flooding occurs.

This is in view of the recent pronouncements from the Department of Health on the noted increase of water-borne diseases brought about by weather changes including cough, colds and flu plus the deadly diseases from mosquitoes and rats.

Cleaning of the immediate environs to ensure that areas where mosquitoes, cockroaches and rats thrive should be given topmost priority.

Preventive measures to ensure the physical well-being of young people and the public in general should be a universal concern.

Given the urgency, the SK are encouraged to coordinate with the other local agencies to conduct joint clean up drives and activities to prevent the spread of diseases.
